The Darkness II is the sequel to the successful game, The Darkness, where players take control of James Estacado, the don of the Franchetti family. The game takes place five years after the events of the first game and follows James as he struggles with his girlfriend's death and his fight against the Darkness.
The game's story takes a dark turn when James and his men are attacked in a restaurant, leaving James severely injured. Despite his reluctance to use his powers, James is forced to embrace the Darkness to fight off his attackers and begins his battle with the Brotherhood and his own sanity.
The game's core feature is the control of the tendrils, which are Darkness' spawns. The tendrils aid the player in fighting off enemies, allowing them to execute people, throw them around, and throw objects at them. Additionally, the tendrils can be used to attack or defend the player in any fighting situation. The game also offers Vendetass for players who wish to play the campaign with their friends. This plot follows four hitmen from Jackie's family as they attempt to stop the mysterious Brotherhood.
